The grand half marathon  in Lviv  ended the running  season of Run Ukraine Running League 2016

On November 6, 2016 Lviv for the first time hosted a large-scale international half marathon GRAND PRIX LVIV HALF MARATHON 2016, which was the final stage of the running series Run Ukraine Running League 2016.

Despite the heavy rain and adverse weather conditions, the event was attended by 1,300 athletes and amateurs, including 600 runners who participated in the main race — 21.0975 km.

There was no intrigue in the outcome of the race on the main course (21.0975 km). From the first minutes Yurii Hrytsak became a leader and none of the contenders could compete with him. He was 1.45 minutes faster than the closest runner – Oleksandr Babaryka. Serhii Ukrainets finished third.

“I want to thank the organizers for holding such competitions in Ukraine. The route today was challenging on the ascents, but it was good there were no downhill slopes following them right away. The track was difficult, a lot of paving, but I’m satisfied, “- shared the winner of Lviv half marathon Yurii Hrytsak.

The victory of Sofiia Yaremchuk among women on the main course was even more confident. Her nearest rival, Olena Fedorova, came 5 minutes later than Sofiia. The winner of the World Championship in Athletics, Tetiana Petliuk-Diachok, finished first among women on the course of 5 km. The mayor of Lviv – Andrii Sadovyi – also supported the runners and took part in the event along with his three sons.

“They say that rain brings good luck.We always have a rule: if you want to build up Ukraine, it is going to be a long-distance running. You must have confidence and believe in your victory, “- said Andrii Sadovyi.

The route of the half marathon was laid down the historical streets of the city of Lviv. The participants not just competed for the title of best runner while overcoming a difficult track, but also discovered a picturesque town with a special atmosphere.

To participate in the half marathon, fans of running came to Lviv from different cities of Ukraine and other countries. More than 120 foreign participants ran on this day down the main streets of Ukrainian cultural capital.

Famous Ukrainians traditionally joined the event in Lviv. A “1+1” TV Channel presenter Marichka Padalko and social activist Yehor Soboliev, players of FC “Karpaty” Nazar Verbnyi and Gustavo Blanco-Leshchuk, well-known runners Oleh Leshchyshyn, Oleksandr Babaryka, Ivan Babaryka, Ivan Heshko, Iryna Lishchynska also took part in the event.

The oldest participants of the event deserve special attention. Age is not a barrier to participation in a race. This time, the oldest participant of the Lviv half marathon on the longest course (21.0975 km) was a 77-year-old Vasyl Krupskyi. A 74-year-old Anatolii Kolianovskyi was a special participant on the course of 5 km.

Having witnessed the success of the event, the organizers of the race, Run Ukraine and Lviv City Council, are planning to make similar competitions a tradition for the city.

“We heard that the participants were delighted by our half marathon route.Yes, the track was not an easy one, but the desire to overcome it is increased when you see the surrounding beauty. Lviv is a beautiful city, its streets are perfect not only for strolling, but also for running, despite the capricious weather and exhaustion. The beauty of the city inspired runners today to achieve good results – and they showed them! It is very important for the participants not to lose inspiration, approaching the finish line. This beautiful and challenging half marathon ended the running league Run Ukraine Running League 2016, the leaders of which will be announced on November 15, “- commented Dmytro Chernitskyi, the general manager of Run Ukraine.

The total prize fund of the competition was 60,000 UAH. The absolute winners on the half marathon course each received 5,000 UAH. Each finisher of the 21.0975 km course received a commemorative medal at the finish line.
