On October 29 Lviv will host an international large-scale event – GRAND PRIX LVIV HALF MARATHON 2017. The second Lviv half marathon will bring together about 2 100 participants. Professionals and amateurs, adults and children – anyone can join this festival of sports. You simply need to choose a course. This year the organizers, Run Ukraine, offer traditional individual courses of 21, 10, 5 or 2 km as well as a relay race. Registration for the 21 km course is already over. This was announced by the organizers at the press briefing in Lviv City Hall on October 24, 2017.
“This year the 2 km race in Lviv will be charitable. It will be dedicated to the multimedia project “Winners” by TSN. Each participant of this race will help raise funds for the purchase of limb prosthesis for Olha Tarasevych, the girl who lost her leg last May during a shelling of a resident building in Avdiiivka. The athletic prosthesis would let her do sports professionally and safely”, – says Ivan Tretiakov, the organizing director of Run Ukraine.
Besides the charity race, for the first time the GRAND PRIX LVIV HALF MARATHON 2017 in Lviv will include a 2 km Family Run, and any family can participate in it. The young athletes will also be able to test themselves. There will be traditional children’s races of 100, 500 and 1000 meters.
The special feature of the second Lviv half marathon is finisher’s medals. Each participant on the 21.0975 km course will receive a unique medal with the portrait of Andrii Kuzmenko (the frontman of “Skriabin”band).
The route of the half marathon will go down historical streets of the city. The start and finish lines are located by the Opera House. The event will officially open on October 29 at 08:10 a.m. to the music of the brass band of Lviv Opera. According to the requirements of athletic competitions, on the day of GRAND PRIX LVIV HALF MARATHON 2017 some streets in Lviv will be closed for traffic. “Lviv now is developing the culture of mass fascination with sport. It is important that we have a team of organizers who for the second year in a row organize the half marathon in the city and can certify its route. My colleagues and I will also participate in the event. Each one of us is choosing a course and we encourage you to do the same. We would like to apologize to the city residents for temporary inconveniences due to closing of streets for traffic. But it is such large-scale running events like this that help us promote healthy lifestyle in our city”, – says Deputy Mayor for Development Andrii Moskalenko.
GRAND PRIX LVIV HALF MARATHON 2017 has a prestigious 3-star award from the European Athletic Association which testifies to the high level of the event.
This is the final stage of the Run Ukraine Running League 2017, which includes 5 running events in 4 cities of Ukraine – Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa and Lviv. We will determine the winners from among amateur runners. The organizers of the League, Run Ukraine, will present the winners of the League with participation in the prestigious Prague marathon 2018.
